Allergy Friendly Bakery

Sugar Suite Cakes is a new bakery in Oakville that offers allergy friendly treats that are seriously beautiful. When I learned about this place I immediately contacted the owner to interview her for the blog. I just LOOOOOOOVE when businesses try to be as inclusive as possible. Here is my interview with owner Kenzie Goodall.

When did you develop a passion for baking?

I started my first baking job as a co-op in high school at a custom cake shop in Toronto. I was hired on after the placement and my passion developed from there!

Did you go to school for baking/cooking?

I attended Bonnie Gordon College and Le Cordon Bleu to study baking and pastry. I also studied fine arts at York University and OCAD to develop artistic skills I could transfer to baked goods and cakes, including hand painting and sculpting.

Why own an allergy friendly bakery?

I have celiac disease, so I wanted to create an entirely gluten-free shop. When people heard about this, they enquired about other allergies. I wanted the shop to be as inclusive as possible, so we decided to go peanut-free and provide lots of vegan options! We also do custom orders for as many different allergens as possible.


What are your baked goods free of?

Everything is free of gluten and peanuts. We have lots of vegan options and we are working on becoming 100% tree nut free as well. We can also cater to specific allergies by custom order.

Where do you source your ingredients from?

I wish I had a simple answer! Because we need everything to be allergen-free, we can't order everything from a wholesaler like most bakeries do. We often use the same services that a home baker would: the grocery store and Amazon! Sourcing out each ingredient involves research, calls to the supplier, spec sheets and other methods to make sure the products are safe for our use.

What services do you offer?

In our retail storefront, we offer a variety of products including cookies, muffins, cake pops, scones, cinnamon buns, mini pizzas, cupcakes and more. We also do special event catering and weddings, where we offer a variety of sweets that are custom-designed for each individual client.

What is your favourite treat that you serve?

It's so hard to pick just one! My favourite cupcake is our dulce de leche, and I love our vegan pumpkin spice muffin. I also eat our mini pizzas for lunch regularly!



Do you take special requests for specific allergies?

Yes, we do our best to cater to every allergen we can! We get a lot of requests for sugar-free products and have a couple different options: a maple syrup and coconut sugar cupcake, as well as a diabetic-friendly chocolate cake. We also have sugar-free (maple syrup-sweetened) cookies available in store!


Can you cater to large events like weddings?

Absolutely! Sugar Suite started as a special event and wedding catering company. Custom cakes are our specialty, and we offer a variety of custom options such as sugar cookies, macarons, meringues, cupcake bouquets, etc.
